Account book, 1788-1790, recording accounts for the mercantile firm of James Parsons & Son of New York City. Entries record large and small transactions for such items as fabrics, flaxseed, drygoods, beef, pork, flour, clothing accessories, and potash, in domestic and foreign trade. Other entries record commissions, consignments, "house expences," cartage, and payments of custom house duties and charges. Included are records of business with merchants in New York, Nantucket, Philadelphia, Dublin, London, Cape Francois, Martinique, and elsewhere, particularly Joseph Mabbet, Dean & Hochstrasser, Tiddeman Hull, Abel Peters, Wilmot Oakley, Joseph Leggett, Isaac Bloom, Jesse Oakley, and Zabulon Phillips, William Rotch, Peleg Wood, among many others.

Tiddeman Hull was a Quaker merchant who lived in New York City and the surronding area. Hull was born in 1734 to Captain John Hull and Damaris Cary Hull of Jamestown, Rhode Island. As a young adult he moved to Purchase, New York, where in 1758 he married Elizabeth Franklin (also spelled Franklyn).
